Bill Murray may have not been the biggest Punxsutawney Phil fan but that groundhog was not wrong when he saw his shadow; winter was not over.
The first weekend in March we were greeted with sunny skies and temps in the low 70s and the Bombers started off with a win against the Celts. The following weekend both sides would travel, kicking off league play, with a 40 degree temperature change in about 1-3 inches of snow.
The DII side would face KCRFC in KC and the DIII side in Rolla against MS&T but because of the weather conditions the DIII match was postponed to a TBD date. The decision to play the DII match was left up the Bombers and the boys packed their snow boots and headed west.
With snow on the pitch and continuing to fall both teams would struggle with traction and ball control would be key.
The Bombers would score three tries by Matt Brotemarkle, Eric Hinson and George Sullivan before KCRFC could get on the board with a penalty kick. Both sides would score a try before half with the Bombers leading 26-8 after Bryan Hebron’s try.
KCRFC was shut out in the second half as the Bombers scored two more times by George Sullivan(2) and Joe Lawrence with the final score 38-8. Keegan Ross would go 4-6 in conversion kicks.

After this win the Bombers are in first place in the Frontier League with a 4-0 record. Next weekend will be a big test for the DII side as Wisconsin travels down to St. Louis. Wisconsin is the 2013 DII National Champs and runner up in 2015. This will be a great opportunity for the Bombers in what they could expect come playoffs.

March 25th the Bombers will have their annual Own the Bar Night at their sponsor Colombo’s Cafe & Tavern. The club will receive a portion of all sales throughout the night starting at 5pm. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, Bucket O’Booze, and a mystery box. This event greatly help the club ease the cost of travel and gear towards the players and other club functions. There will also be a Blues game going on which means drink & food specials. All are welcome and encouraged to bring as many friends as they can.
