The Bombers vs. the Ramblers has always been a good rivalry and Saturday’s game was the last League match of the season for both teams.
The Ramblers were first to strike with a penalty kick from 30 meters out early in the game. The Bombers defense and offense started to get the ball rolling with big scrums and long mauls off of line-outs. The Bombers lead 19-3 at half and kept the pressure up. Ash Hyde would score 5 tries in the game as the Bomber’s A-side beat the Ramblers 50-10 for the final; a good victory before going to Westerns in two weeks.
The second match of the day was a friendly match between both teams’ B-side and anyone who really wanted to play. The lead kept going back and forth with a lot of players playing out of position, and enough scrums to last a season. There were some great plays of ball handling, controlling the scrums, and big runs by Zach Hawkins and John Watson who scored two tries on the day. The B-side didn’t have their designated kicker and when a conversion was needed, I (Neal Ford playing tight-head prop) said, “sure… I’ll kick”. Having never kicked a rugby ball off the tee before, I kicked 3 for 4 from the sideline, missing the easy kick of course. Defense stepped up big late in the game when the Ramblers where right on the try line in a two point game with minutes left. Big-Ben came out firing holding the line and keeping the Ramblers from scoring. The Bombers B-side would defeat the Ramblers 26-24 in a very exciting, tough, and physical game.
Congrats to both sides on their victories and to Ash and Neal for being Man of the Match.
The Bombers will be heading to Western April 27th in Omaha, and so there will be no games this upcoming weekend, but we do have training this Saturday at Lindenwood at 8AM. Don’t forget there is the Bomber’s Trivia Night Saturday night and there are still seats available! $25 per person, teams of 10 with plenty of drinks and prizes. This is a fun event and a great way to help out the Bombers Club.

More information about Westerns will be posted when it comes available, but everyone is still expected to come to practice on Tuesday and Thursdays unless told otherwise. There’s still a lot of rugby to be played and we need everyone if we’re going to make it to the National Championship in Glendale.
